Sweet Little Saylor April 15th, 2010

Many moons ago when I owned a costume business and just used my photography as a way to get catalog images cheaper, I discovered Saylor at a VBS and begged her mom to let me use her to model some of my items. It was three years ago that I got this image below...

Which as you can guess by looking at it, captured many hearts and went on to win some awards too. Well now Saylor is grown up to age 6 and I was so happy when her mom called over the winter to schedule a Whimsy session.

This time Saylor got her funky flutter on, with a costume inspired by her room at home with zebra stripes and pinks!

I hope you had a fabulous 6th birthday Saylor and that you enjoy your costume (and pics too!!!)

Not So Sure Yet... April 12th, 2010

I got a replacement lens today. I went a bit different this time. I'm not so thrilled yet. Still playing. We shall see.

Joshua was kind enough to let me use him a moment to try our the lens. The more I look at this picture, as entranced as I am with those fabulous eyes, I think the lens is gonna be returned.

In other news, I think we have the cutest little carrot sprouts ever! Last year I transferred too quickly and killed off all the carrots but ONE. Yes, ONE carrot grew to about 4 inches. This year I'm hoping we do much better with the carrots. The spinach and green peppers look marveous, and cucombers are starting to sprout. Last night was my first meal all year that I was able to walk outside and get my own herbs. :) I was suprised that our sad strawberry plants last year not only survived the winter, but are THRIVING. I kid you not that there are THREE flowers already bloomer with the cute little berries. We had big time bunny issues last year, and I had planned on using a topsy turvy berry container, but these are doing so well I may just put a little fence up to keep the bunnies out instead.

Park Playtime April 11th, 2010

While I'll be the first to admit the family (sans hubby) is quite wii addicted. I'm therefore forcing my kids to spend time outside and have no more than 10 minutes each per day. I know, I'm sooooo mean. Taking a trip to the local children's garden was not at all torture though this weekend and instead we had a glorious time.

I used the sand pit to gain some experience shooting the kids before our big 'sea shore' vacation later this year. You'd think it was around the corner the way the kids talk about it al the time, but it's not until September.

I thought this picture of Josh was just too precious... until I zoomed in close while post processing and noticed TOE NAIL PAINT! Thank goodness I looked close up before blowing it up as a canvas or something equally costly. After confirming with hubby that I indeed see painted to nails, we both went promptly to the boys room to examine our boys feet. His feet were polish free, though the nails needed a good trim. As it turns out, I took a shot of some stranger kids' feet instead. So without further ado...

Alas they were free to play to their hearts content. Ninja Chris was off to do some warrior training.

Nataley wanted to catch butterflies... but thusfar they've eluded her.

And Joshua was off to train his 'dragon'

Botanical Gardens April 10th, 2010

I was tipped off last week that a new exhibit was opening at the botanical conservatory in Fort Wayne - with live butterflies!!! I thought it sounded just perfect for a girls' day out for Nataley and I. While I grew up going to the Franklin Park Conservatory, which is just fabulous, this was quite nice for a smaller town, though much larger then Van Wert of course.

Nataley wanted to wear a pair of wings to visit the butterflies, which was just fine by me. As she fluttered down the sidewalk holding my hand three people stopped - one in a moving vehicle, to tell my little orange butterfly how cute she was. You can imagine how my shy wall flower hated this (lol, please note the major amt of sarcasm here).

There were lots of funky flowers that I enjoyed taking pictures of. Nataley was full of ''ooohs'' and ''ahhhs'' and was truly loving every minute. But it didn't take long for her to tire of plants and want to head in to the butterfly section.

Nataley desperately wanted a butterfly to land on her, but they seemed to enjoy my camera much more. We thought the butterflies landing on my lens were jealous I was taking pictures of other butterflies instead.

When we bought our tickets we were met with appologies that their big butterfly shipment had not yet arrived (and they were letting everyone in today for just $1 because of this) But as you can see, there were still several dozen butterflies that made it super easy to get up close and personal.

Nataley took some shots too - and this is one of them. I was so proud of her, especially when I saw how awesome this picture of hers turned out. You go girl!!!

And if life wasn't perfect already, we got to see a rainbow on the way out!

Celebrating with Holly April 2nd, 2010

This week I got to photograph my first senior from Ottawa!

Holly was such a doll, and couldn't have been easier to photograph. Her love of life shown through in the pictures. I even got a hug at the end of the session :) I love 'my' seniors!

4-H Fun March 30th, 2010

The other night I hosted a large 4-H group at the studio for an outting of the photography club. It took a bit for them to loosen up awhile, but I let each kid take a turn in front, and behind, the camera, for some hi key shots. Nataley came with me, and naturally dressed up for her turn in front of the camera.

I know she was going for the glamorous look here, but I can't help think she's totally missed it. Less is more honey, less is more.
