Curves
February 8, 2011
Nataley and Joshua are excited about entering a little photo competition on Thursday night. The theme is Curves.

One of Joshua's entries that he took down in Virginia. He would like to point out the curves of the mountains, clouds, river, and bridge too.

Nataley's photo from the summer... Mmmm... CJs. :)

Can you even guess what these are? This is my entry. Instead of giving you the answer quite yet I'll let you wonder about it awhile.

Another photo of mine. I guess I wanted to feel the warmth and the curves of the petals fit the theme.

I'm including one more photo of mine with curves petals... just cause it makes me happy.
Seeing a pattern
February 7, 2011
Yea yea yea... more snow pics :) I'm definately seeing a pattern in my photos these days. Not getting very creative with the white stuff this week.

Love seeing the snow melt!!! I am hoping my kids actually have sidewalks to use on their way home from school sometime in the near future. Until people are taking care of their walks I've been taking them to and from school... a bit much on the warmer days when we're a block away. But it's certainly better than them walking in the street!

Our neighbors have this bush that I sort of thought was an overgrown weed. Whatever it is, the skeletal remains are absolutely adored by cardinals, with over a dozen in their yard tonight (bright red boys and brownish girls alike). How come girls are always the dull ones in nature and boys are vibrant?
A SnowBow!!!
February 6, 2011
Yes, a rainbow with snow. I was shocked when I saw this yesterday out driving with the kids. By the time we made it to the country the sun was nearly setting the rainbow... err... snowbow, was fading away. I was very impressed and honestly never even thought of the possibility of a rainbow in the winter. I'm very pleased that some facebook friends also saw this as I don't think anyone would have believed me :)

We also saw some other lovely sights. This was what I expected to see with the near blizzard we had earlier in the week... but with the wind nothing stayed on the trees and branches... just all over the ground. Yesterday as we got 4 or 5 inches more of snow it fell wish such a calmness it collected easily on anything that was outside... including burrying shovels and our grill. Sometimes I like to grill in odd weather and think this week would be a perfect time to have some steaks... if only I can thaw the grill out enough to get it started.

I'll do my best not to include snow/ice in my next post... but I can't make promises! :)
Yes, More Snow
February 5, 2011
We awoke to a beautiful sight of fat flakes of snow gently falling to the ground. I know most people out there are groaning at more snow, but it was so lovely I simply loved watching the snow fall in the back yard.
Nataley noticed soon that ''our'' cardinal friend returned. He stayed much further away this time (a tad camera shy?) so the photos were not at all as crisp and clear as last time, but I loved that we got to watch him eat.

We ran into a friend of the boys' at breakfast and kidnapped him for a few hours. The snow was perfect this time for another one of the legendary Hattery Indoor Snowball fights!

It was Girls-vs-Boys and Nataley and I had every intention of them getting plundered with the cold, wet balls.
However I took the worst blows getting hit repeatedly from the face to my backside (which they loved hitting). I think trying to take pics of the event hindered my duck and cover capabilities.

Snowed In Fun
February 3, 2011
If you're told to stay off the roads and are stuck inside, you may as well have some fun with it! My fun began by making completely by scratch homemade pancakes - as in flour, sugar, oil, eggs, water, baking powder and milk... and big, juicy, yummy blueberries!

The kids ate them up big time so I guess they were good! A Bit too sweet for Nataley, who's been sick since Monday evening with a high fever and cough, but everyone else ate 'em up.

Somehow despite the sickies she manages to have a bit of glint in her eyes and being in a lovely mood. She woke up yesterday and said, ''I want to make the boys a present!'' Please note the pajamas are inside out and backwards - the kids trick to help have school closed. I think the ice and snow was a bit more helpful then their good luck clothing choice.

The kids have been doing a variety of activities from Ninjago...

wii...

Snowball fighting

Baking...

She's starting to feel better here :) I was so happy when the fever broke!

And I don't know what this could be called aside from the obvious jumping off bed to a pile of blankets and pillows. Some type of X Games - see the helmets?

Some favorite animals were judging the jumps.
I think it was a fun week off of school for the kids. Now since they're healthy and happy - I WANT MY HOUSE BACK!!! It's time for everyone to go back to work and school and let me have a quiet house for a few hours :)
More from Storm Central
February 2, 2011
The second wave of the storm has hit and we have been fortunate to be just north of the major ice storm, and just south of the blizzard. The kids will still be off for several days, perhaps the week, and the county has nearly shut down with warnings to NOT go out. The severe cold means no building igloos or snowmen, and photos are being take through the glass of doors and windows. But we're still having some fun, playing lots of games and even making snow cones when the ice pellets rained down (we sprinkled fruit punch mix on the roof to make the snow cones outside the boys room window, making it look like someone had been bleeding out the window, lol).

Ice raining down yesterday afternoon...

And then the snow thismorning. You can see the neighbors clock looks a bit blurry now with a thin layer of ice covering the face.

The sheer amt of snow that comes down at one time with the wind can be breathtaking and humbling. I'm so happy to be inside :)

Ice pellets instead of snow yesterday. I think this is better in the way of it not collecting on branches and electrical lines, but I'm sure with more snow on top after this photo was taken doesn't make for a pleasant drive.
