Josh and Nataley's Big Night January 7, 2011

Tonight we went to celebrate Josh and Nataley's amazing photography skills ;) I'm the first to admit they are NOT adjusting manual settings, but working only on focus and composition right now. Josh sits with me at the computer as we discuss post processing, but at this point I'm limiting him to cropping and sharpening. I still think more than that at this point may just be too much, but perhaps I'm holding him back. He is, after all, 7 1/2 now. Nataley on the other hand is more carefree aloof and just wants to take pictures of pretty things (don't we all?)

But nonetheless, Joshua once again took home a first place prize for the Art Space/Lima photography show (this time the winner was a shot of Chris and I, when I had Joshua come out to take new pics of me for my blog and facebook. I paid him too, a whole three bucks).

It is a jurried exhibit, which means that even you pay to enter your photos, less than half of them actually get in to the show, and its all at the discretion of the jurrors. Of that half they then judge first, seconds, best of show, and so forth. Only four kids got in to the show this year - two of which were my kids :) Joshua had three pieces entered, three got in, and Nataley just entered one photo (again, back to the only taking pics if its pretty).

Congrats to both Josh and Nat!!! I'm proud of you both!!! and yes, before yall point it out to me, I know I have three kids, but Chris is so not into photography. He is a runner and is more than happy to cheer his kid bro and sis on at art exhibits and leave it to them :) I will do plenty of gushing on Christopher this summer. :)

Exhibit opening January 2, 2011

Well at long last, with what feels like 12 months of planning (it really wasn't of course), my first solo exhibit officially opened today. They hosted a little Meet The Artist reception, and I gotta tell ya, THAT WAS FUN! I was nervous at first, for who knows what reason... It's not anyone was going to just tell me flat out they don't like my photos or anything. I suppose I wondered if anyone would come, and while there were lull moments, there were equally as many moments of being quite packed.

Thank you SO much to all those who came out today. It was great seeing so many of my little butterflies from years past. I had meant to take photos of the little girls with either their book page or if they had a photo on display... but I managed to only grab the camera out for one little girl aside from my own. :) So here is a little slideshow for you of some of the pieces on display, as well as todays snapshots.

AND starting next week at the conservatory in the showcase gardens there will be a Peter Pan themed show. My exhibit will be up in the Orchid Room until the end of February, so there's time to go see it, and enjoy the Peter Pan show as well. Visit www.botanicalconservatory.org for more info on the Peter Pan show.

Happy New Year! January 1, 2011

It's 1-1-11. A new day, month, year, decade has begun. I'm thinking great things will happen in the future and I'm very optomistic... but I feel so blessed to have had such a great day, month, year and decade that just ended.

Yesterday I got to oversee the installation of my first exhibit. It was a great day!

Last month I spent so much time with my family. I love playing with my kids. It was a wonderful month.

This last year we've had a blast! Kids were healthy and doing great in school - they got to see the ocean for the first time, and all three won different types of awards for the first time. My husband was home and not having mortars falling near him. I got to see Whimsy Pics take off to new heights like I'd never imagined possible. It was an amazing year.

This last decade I became a mommy, and again, and again. I went from working with commercial web design to portraiture, and when the kids were old enough and in school full time, went back to work full time with the opening of my first commercial studio space. Sure beats shooting out of the great room :) A decade ago hubby and I bought our first home, and then quickly flipped it when we discovered we were moving 90 minutes away instead. Then we bought our second home... which while it feels small and falling apart around us at times, I'm thankful to have a home with a tiny mortgage and a place my kids are safe and happy. It was an incredible decade.

And so I won't bother you with a slideshow from the past decade, eeek, but here is a retrospect of this previous year. I love my life. :)
