Wedding Planning September 17th, 2009 Naw, I'm not planning any weddings!!! But I have been surprised about how many inquiries I've had for weddings up to 16 months from now. It makes me feel loved :) Then today I got an inquiry on if I give discounts to WedPlan clients and when I went to the website I saw... ![]() ME! Ok, not exactly. But that's my silhouette featured on the front page. ![]() Right now I still only accept, at the most, one wedding a month. I don't want weddings to get mundane or boring. It's far too exciting and special for the couple, and as long as I keep the excitement and awe I know I can deliver beautiful photographs with lots of emotions tied to them. But I always get a bit sappy talking about weddings... :) More peeks September 14th, 2009 Here are a couple more peeks for Madi - Enjoy!!! ![]() Madison's Senior Pictures September 13th, 2009 Today was Madison's picture day. It was a gorgeous day with blue skies which means tons of shadows and a bit too hot. :) Not to worry though, I assued Madi I could work my magic, and of course had my speedlight. ![]() Here's Madi's squick sneak peek for tonight. I promise to get another shot up for you tomorrow!!! Family Days September 12th, 2009 Today was the first family day I attended with the kids at hubby's work. They've had many in the past, but none I cared to attend. Too much chaos with three little ones. But now the kids listen and obey, and when kids are good, they get rewarded. Today the reward was being able to go to daddy's base, and boy was it ever fun for them. There were bounce houses, paint ball target practice, dunk tanks, scooter racing, football toss, and all the little carnival games you can tend to expect. In addition, there were also demonstations, such as the k-9 unit, bomb squad, SWAT team, and so forth. ![]() And what was Nataley's big deal? Getting her face painting 'camoflauge' pink to match her camo hat. Wow, was she ever stunning! LOL. Not only did she look questionable with the face painting, but I still haven't gotten a microcard for my phone so these are not good pics at all. ![]() I think the biggest thrill for Chris was getting to operate a bomb robot. Chosen by chance, he was able to go into the bomb unit and control the robot by watching video screens. He had fun trying to scare us. When it got crowded around, we made sure his turn was up. ![]() Thankfully Joshua got to win a door prize. *phew* So often Chris overshadows his little brother, and while there are certainly advantages to being older, many things happen to Chris that don't happen to just everyone, making it extra difficult on Josh to have his special moments (ie, conducting an orchestra) So Josh was absolutely thrilled to win an updated version of the game Battleship. We weren't in the house 50 seconds and he was opening the package and asking how the game worked. Another fun day has come to an end... somewhat - there are still some giggles coming from the kids' rooms. I hope all the fresh air and excitement gets them extra tired for naptime tomorrow ;) ha ha ha... one can dream :) Tah-Dah! September 9th, 2009 Well I did it! Thanks to a bunch of teens who dropped everything for me, and some spongebob to entertain the still out of school kids, mixed in with two late nights and one early morning, I think it should be ready for entering to the annual photography show at a local art center. ![]() Anyone familiar with Normal Rockwell's illustration (or perhaps it was a painting, I'm not sure) the Gossips??? If you are, then the inspiration to update it with teens and texting is obvious. If you don't know this particular classic, I'm afraid you may not see the humor in the print. At first I thought it would be hilareous and a sure winner, but if the judges don't 'get' my funny here, well, then I guess I just get to enjoy it :) Right now its in packaging (along with two others, one reprint I didn't like the grit on, and one massive 20x24 print) and it looks like I'll spend my first free day with kids at school mounting and getting prints ready to hang (do I dare think it's gonna happen? or will fog be upon us again?) Secrets and Surprises September 7th, 2009 Today was entertaining to say the least. I was photographing a VWHS Senior named Chelsey and her BF Nate came along for the fun. In the middle of it all 2+2+2+2 turned out to equalling Nate actually being the grown up version of a little boy we use to know. I was suddenly faced with the fact of the matter being, yup, I'm getting older. Surprise, surprise, surprise! ![]() ![]() ![]() I hope Chelsey had a little bit of fun today at her session. She wasn't exactly, well, 100% to say the least thanks to a misserable cold and recent injury, and I felt like before her pictures were over I was going to break her. Still, she was a trooper and took the abuse I dished out... and as you can see here, so did Nate! Oh and hey, did you want to hear a secret? ![]() I've been hinting oh so subtly (lol) on Facebook about a top secret project I'm working on. This is your hint du jour of what its all about. (the hint being the photo above) I cannot thank enough the dozen or so seniors who dropped everything and came to my studio today to help make my vision a reality. Various Shots September 6th, 2009 It was a lovely weekend for a hilltop wedding! A lovely weekend to visit a castle! A lovely weekend for caves, and a lovely weekend for napping!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fair Fun September 4th, 2009 In years past I have avoided the fair at all cost - I'd drive the long way around to avoid having any little eyes peer into the fairgrounds, and make sure no one discussed the fair around them. This year was completely different. The kids are all enough to listen, trust, comply, and have an absolute blast. ![]() ![]() After taking a bare bones approach to the fair one day and telling the kids ''No'' to dozens of activities, it only took one little girl to come home and say, ''Please daddy, can I please do the trampoline at the fair?'' His answer was Yes, and everyone got to pick an activity. Josh did the trampoline and loved it. Chris has been up and down the rock wall four times successfully, and was inches away from completing the ''Hard'' section, in which the person wins $100 (or a GI Joe command center). Nataley, despite her begging, was scared to pieces when strapped into the harness for the trampoline and went to play a duckie game instead. I tried the trampoline and am sooooooooooooo sore. I wanted so badly to do all sorts of flips and tricks and, well, it just so didn't happen. I could barely manage going straight up and down without hurting myself. I did jump into the fencing once, and also have a nice bruise on my thigh from the harness. Ugh. With all the expensive, crazy activities out of our system, I hope the rest of the week will be nice and cheap at the fair! Can't wait for school to be back in session. I have yet to have a day with all three kids in school, thanks to a nice virus that was going around - ick. Parker's Special Day September 2nd, 2009 Today was all about Parker! His big sister has been able to come get photos a few times this summer, and now we got to have lots of fun today too. The weather was devine - I had been concerned it might be too cold with the chilly mornings we've been having. Parker was awesome at getting pictures (and his mom was just as awesome being all silly to get him to laugh) ![]() ![]() I can't wait to look at the rest of the photos I got to take! Nataley Starts Kindergarden September 1st, 2009 After weeks of questions, concerns, and lots of nerves, thismorning Nataley officially began kindergarden. I wonder what she's doing right now.... *sigh* No, I haven't (yet) cried, and no, I'm not sure how I'm doing just yet. There isn't elation, or trembling. My stomach is sort of in knots. ![]() The sun was horribly bright, but it was too chilly to move her into the shade for a photo. She picked out a pastel butterfly dress to wear, and got to wear her brand new 'candy' shoes (they have a piece of candy pictured on the inside.) ![]() Our beloved Mrs. Hood, who was Christopher's kindy teacher as well. Fun at the Fair August 31st 2009 I find that every time I type the word ''fair'' I throw a ''y'' at the end and have to backspace. I think I must have typed the word fairy 3000x more in my life then fair. But anyway, the fair is taking shape. Totally different then when I was helping out Sunday. Now the rides were up, or almost so, food vendors in place, and much more difficult to navigate through the grounds in my van. I with I could have had time to just wander around taking shots of everything in its calm state before the chaos begins. As night began to fall, I'll admit, some of it is downright freaky. Take carosel hourses. I've never been a fan. I can't figure out it they're beautiful, or scary, and I lean towards the fearful side. ![]() Tonight was judging for photography. I've never in my life entered anything to the fair, so I really didn't know what to expect. To be honest, it got a little embarrassing. My husband thinks I shouldn't enter again. I thought of it as a cheap little marketing tool - for those who know me but don't know my business yet, they'll see the photos and maybe end up finding out about my studio. Who knows, it could translate to new seniors, Christmas photos, etc... Instead of reposting all the pics again, I'm just going to update the post below with the results. :) I entered 7 pics, won with 6 of them. My two b/w pics I think I'm definately going to enter in my big competition next month that I do every year. Hopefully the judges will be as favorable towards my photography style at that show. From Busy to Bored August 29th 2009 It looked like I had a zillion placed to be each day for a week... but then it all came to a screeeeching hault as I picked up my cell to hear, ''Jodi, it's Ms Runnion from Franklin. Chris was complaining of chills and has a 102 temp. Would you please come get him?'' Of course I was out of town and two minutes away from a senior session, but, naturally, I turned around and headed home. I was so looking forward to taking those pics too. A trip to the ER that night and he was all better the next morning (gotta love that modern medicine stuff). Then I'm up bright and early today and head to the studio. Phone rings again... The senior I was taking pics of today is now ill. Waaaah! Well it could be worse - I could also have a high fever and strep throat. I was so bummed I called up the first girl who I had to cancle on to see if she were available for today (which of course, didn't work out. Like how can you expect a girl to do senior pics last minute? lol) I went from a busy schedule to bored today. Yes, laundry, dishes, and basic cleaning and organizing, but nothing as fun as taking photos. I did finish up my pics for the fair I'm entering. I've never entered anything, ever, in any type of fair, so this is a first for me. Should be interesting to see everyone's interpretations of the rather odd categories. Here are my entries with their categories... - One Is The Lonliest Number 1st Place - Purple Haze Nothing - What a Wonderful World - 1st Place - Time Stands Still - 3rd Place - In The Shadow of Your Smile - 2nd Place - Time Stands Still, b/w - 1st Place - In The Shadow of Your Smile, b/w - 1st Place, Best In ShowI have no idea what the competition will be like, or what the judges will be looking for with each category, but it should be interesting. I'm volunteering tomorrow with my camera club to take the entries in. It's totally selfish - I just want to be able to snoop at everyone else's stuff. :) |
