Newest Pets May 1st, 2010

Fish certainly arent a new addition to the family. We've had plenty of goldfish in the past that have met their demise in various ways - once when I was cleaning out the bowl and one went down the drain, one poisoned when I bug bombed the house and forgot to remove it, one, as it turns out, doesn't like Van Wert water.

So while at Walmart last night it was not shocking when Nataley wanted to look at the fish, or that she wanted a fish. And when she used the cell to ask Daddy for a fish? No shocker that he said yes. She was so thrilled, and we actually ended up with three little ones.

Their names are Speedy China Fish, Orangey, and just Speedy.

Naturally you can't be apart of the Hattery family without your first portrait being taken within hours. :)

Baseball Begins! April 30th, 2010

Baseball began this week for the boys, and I asked them if I could bring the camera for pics. The boys agreed, and I loved being the spy from the van.

I credit the Wii for Josh's ability to throw straight and connect with the ball while hitting. I told them I was going to 'make' them play more Wii for practice when it's raining. :)

I'm thinking he's probably going to be left outfield as he's been very good at getting the balls that go between the other people's legs. :)

Chris on the other hand has been spending most of his time between first base and catcher. I feel bad for him while he's at first base because the balls coming at him can easily be five feet above his head, crazy far to the left, or not even make it that far. But he seems to have a great attitude about it all.

I think the group we signed the kids up with would be where they get the term 'farm league' lol. Can you see in the back the barn and field?

Behind The Scenes: Whimsy Sessions April 28th, 2010

The Spring Whimsy Sessions are fast approaching and I cannot wait!!! But wow, every year I'm surprised once again how much work it takes ahead of time to make for a super special and magical experience for the little girls.

This is just a look at some of the organized chaos at the studio during the month of April. The goal is to have all the costumes done and ready to go before the start of the whimsy sessions. I have under two weeks left and am completely done with six costumes, about halfway done of another 4, and not even started a few. I can do it!!! Not all moms choose to purchase the Butterfly Bliss session, where the girls get to keep their costume, so fortunately I don't have to make a costume for each and every girl I photograph!

Miss Etta will be wearing this costume above. Though just about halfway done, I think it's just adorable how it's coming together!

This costume is for 1/2 of a sister set. The older sis will be in darker shades of purple with blue and black (this one here is four shades of purple and lavender, with pink).

For one little girl, this set is made to match her bedroom. Come June she'll have a fabulous postrait on her wall

I hesitated posting pictures of the costumes as you just can't tell how fun, frilly and fabulous they are until they are on a little girl... However there's also something to be said about the before and after effect as well. :)

Prom 2010 April 24th, 2010

Nataley came with me to take pics of some pretty girls in pretty dresses today at the NPAC.

Hope you had fun girls!!! You looked MARVELOUS!

More Bug pics April 23th, 2010

The thing about butterflies... they're not as cute when you're up close and personal with them.

Lovin the tulips though!!! They are definately up there as some of my favorite flowers.

Happy Earth Day!!! April 22th, 2010

I love earth day. I thought I was a tree hugger, but my little girl puts me to shame. When my daughter has a daughter, my hope is that Earth day is as big of a deal or bigger then Valentine's Day. The two are so much alike anyway. On Valentine's day we spend time reflecting on how much we love, cherish, and need to take care of our Valentine. Shouldn't we be doing the same for our Earth? (Besides, we all know Valentine's can come and go, and, well, the Earth is the only one we've got!!!)

So for our Earth Day celebration the Hattery's went to the botanical conservatory in Fort Wayne. You'll remember Nat and I went for a mommy/daughter day earlier in the month. When I saw how kid friendly and not ''too girlie'' it was, I knew I wanted to bring the boys back. It was a marvelous trip, and I think we all loved it very much.

And O-M-G I got a picture of all three kids! I had hoped I would and dressed them accordingly (never busy t-shirts parents!) but that they actually sat still for 2 seconds amazes me.

Tomorrow I'll sort through the pics of butterflies and flowers and share some of those too. :)

Just Can't Wait... April 20th, 2010

I finished up this costume today and couldn't wait to see it on a little girl. Thus, Nataley got dressed up right after school and we went off to the woods for some fun.

This pose became a signature one for me. I have so many moms ask for this shot for their daughters and am more than happy to oblige.

...and finally, a little vintage work for ya. Not like there were butterfly girls running around the woods back in the 1920s

Whimsy Sessions Added!!! April 19th, 2010

While most Whimsy sessions are booked 6 months in advance, I don't like to book anything until mid to late May in case the weather is still miserable. HOWEVER, with that said, I think come next Wednesday we may be in the clear to nice mid 60s and up, and therefore opening up a couple of extra whimsy sessions!

Call (419) 234 - 8587 to book a Whimsy Session, starting at just $30. Sessions available are...
* Thursday, April 29th 1pm, 2pm
* Friday, April 20th, 1pm, 2pm
* Tuesday, May 4th, 1pm, 2pm
* Thursday, May 7th, 1pm 2pm

After May 7th I have just a spot or two in June, and a few more in July. SO, moral of the story - if you're not booked yet and been thinking about it, call NOW to take advantage of one of these new open spots with this nice warm weather that's come early this year.

Beans and Spinnach and Carrots, Oh My! April 17th, 2010

It's cold out, or at least chilly. The above average temps we've been having in northwest Ohio have spoiled us and left me downright whiney at the normal temps we're having now. I'm rather thankful for the foresight to have not officially planted our veggies yet, and had them in mini greenhouses instead. And guess what... they're back inside!

In the backroom/den tonight I couldn't help but notice the delicious light streaming in through the windows and pounding down onto the bean sprouts. Had to get the camera and snap a few pics.

I can't help but think how delicious these will be in just a couple months. We had a taste test last year at our house - our veggies from the garden vs. the grocery store veggies. Ours were sooooo much better. I made fresh green beans a weeks ago, and the whole family was whistfully thinking forward to the day of going outside for our dinner. lol, does that sound hickish? Or just sound healthy?

For now though, as the sun set on the plants, we can just keep dreaming of those warmer temps coming back to us.

Sweet Little Saylor April 15th, 2010

Many moons ago when I owned a costume business and just used my photography as a way to get catalog images cheaper, I discovered Saylor at a VBS and begged her mom to let me use her to model some of my items. It was three years ago that I got this image below...

Which as you can guess by looking at it, captured many hearts and went on to win some awards too. Well now Saylor is grown up to age 6 and I was so happy when her mom called over the winter to schedule a Whimsy session.

This time Saylor got her funky flutter on, with a costume inspired by her room at home with zebra stripes and pinks!

I hope you had a fabulous 6th birthday Saylor and that you enjoy your costume (and pics too!!!)

Not So Sure Yet... April 12th, 2010

I got a replacement lens today. I went a bit different this time. I'm not so thrilled yet. Still playing. We shall see.

Joshua was kind enough to let me use him a moment to try our the lens. The more I look at this picture, as entranced as I am with those fabulous eyes, I think the lens is gonna be returned.

In other news, I think we have the cutest little carrot sprouts ever! Last year I transferred too quickly and killed off all the carrots but ONE. Yes, ONE carrot grew to about 4 inches. This year I'm hoping we do much better with the carrots. The spinach and green peppers look marveous, and cucombers are starting to sprout. Last night was my first meal all year that I was able to walk outside and get my own herbs. :) I was suprised that our sad strawberry plants last year not only survived the winter, but are THRIVING. I kid you not that there are THREE flowers already bloomer with the cute little berries. We had big time bunny issues last year, and I had planned on using a topsy turvy berry container, but these are doing so well I may just put a little fence up to keep the bunnies out instead.
